Hardy Hamilton DOB: 14/01/2000 Has been brought into the Emergency Department by his partner today. His partner states he has taken a box of oxycodone tablets with alcohol. He has been drinking heavily all afternoon. His partner states that they have been having relationship problems and that he is currently out of work at the moment. He has been anxious and withdrawn for the last week. He has a past history of depression and today his partner has noticed some superficial wounds on his arms. Hardy is rousable to voice. A - patent - snoring occasionally B - RR 11 bpm, SaO2 - 90% C - HR 70 bpm, BP: 105/70, Capillary refill is <2 secs D - GCS 11/15, BGL 5.1, PEARL E- superficial lacerations to arms. Temperature is 36.9. What is Type 1 diabetes and how could this be problematic with this current admission? What is hypoglycaemia and how will you know this patient's decreased GCS is from the overdose or a hypoglycaemic event?
