Discussion:

1. Do you have any concerns regarding the "All Arrestee" DNA Collection Laws?

Critics also argue that the taking of DNA from arrestees is in violation of the 4th Amendment. The 4th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution guards against unreasonable searches and seizures. People on both sides of the issues, whether they are civil libertarians or supporters of DNA arrestee laws, have strong opinions about what the 4th Amendment protects.

There is a high change DNA sample will start to decrease during time evtually as DNA samples collected in significant volumes and the restriction/accessibility of some laboratories and the ability to respond to the initial increase in sample size. More than likely resulting in the need for new staff, technological upgrades, and larger facilities, more technicians.

2. What are the benefits and drawbacks of these laws and maintaining these DNA profiles in the CODIS database?

Numerous Criminals tend to repeat their crimes. Studies have shown that the taking of arrestee's DNA helps to reduce crime, especially homicides and rapes.  In the example, Virginia's Arrestee's Experience, The Chicago Study, The Maryland Study, Indiana Study, each conviction each study has shown how positive it is to have a database to help in critical cases.

3. Are there any Constitutional Amendments that you believe this law is impeding?

4. What is the value of "touch DNA, familial DNA testing, DNA warrants in solving crimes? Are there any specific crimes these have been shown to be exceptionally effective in either decreasing the crime rate or leading to arrests (and more importantly, convictions)? Can DNA be used to identify IED bomb makers? Your response to any of the above is optional, considering this week has a lab and significant readings-resources. Nevertheless, this is important information to understand. re: the power of this forensic tool (DNA) for the criminal justice system.
