ASSESSMENT TASK

Case Study Part A:

Case Study 1 - Seborrhoea/ Acne

John is a 17 year old male, studying in his final year at high school. He works part time in a popular takeaway restaurant on weekends and evenings. John is saving for his first car and has recently taken on extra shifts and is now working most evenings. The extra shifts and studying for final exams has added extra stress on John, and he gets limited sleep at night because he needs to study after he finishes work.

John plays football at school and changes back into his school uniform from his sports clothes that are kept in his gym bag between wears and washes.

The majority of John's meals are from his takeaway restaurant at night (mostly burgers) and school bought lunches (comprising of soft drinks, packets of chips and meat pies). He also has a limited water intake.

John only uses soap on his face and sunblock when outside playing sports. It has been within the last
8 months that his skin has worsened to red, inflamed pustules, papules and open and closed comedones. These are now present on the majority of John's face. Prior to this, John's skin only presented with open and closed comedones and the occasional pustule. John has advised that he has previously visited a doctor who discussed Roaccutane with him.

John's main concern with his skin is the red and inflamed pustules. John is a new client to the salon and this is your first treatment.

She is a smoker and drinks alcohol daily, with a limited water intake and the majority of her meals being take away or eaten in restaurants.

Due to Sally's long work hours, and late nights with clients, she does not have the time to exercise. Sally is currently only using a foaming cleanser and wears a full face of makeup daily. She has no pre-existing medical conditions.

Sally's skin is thickened, dull and lacklustre. Fine lines are present on the forehead, with deep creases around the eyes and near the mouth. She has loose skin around her neck. Her skin tone is extremely uneven due to a large amount of pigmentation. Sally has admitted that she does not wear a sunscreen and in her youth, spent an extended period of time tanning in the sun and on sun beds.
