Discussion: Short Story Analysis -Character, Point of View, Style (Student-led)
This discussion will help you finish constructing and refining your Short Story Analysis before you submit it to the Dropbox, helping you to explore and analyze the characters, point of view, and tone of the story you chose for your essay (the same story as the one you chose for last week's discussion).
Continuing with the project of relating theme to the literary elements of fiction, answer the following questions in your initial post:
Character: What happens to the main character? How and why? What role do the other characters play in the experience of the main character?
Point of View: What is the story's point of view? How does the choice of point of view reinforce the story's theme?
Tone: What is the tone of the story, in setting, narration, action, and dialogue? How does the tone of the story serve to reinforce the story's theme?
Briefly describe how the plot, characters, setting, point of view, and style all contribute to the story's theme. Then, answer this question: what is the meaning of the story? What do you think the author is trying to tell us?
