First, find one or two quotations from the time Douglass spent with the Aulds learning to read that particularly affected you. What is the story of this part of the book, and will the quotations help you to tell that story? Your grade depends in part on your choice here; if you choose an insignificant event, you will receive a lower grade.
Then write your response. DO NOT BEGIN with the quotations you chose. Begin by writing about Douglass and the Narrative: what you thought about the book. (Be sure to use author's name and full title of book.) Then, write about the part that was most important to you; use a quotation, and explain why it impressed you. Try to come to some conclusion, about the book or the author or your reaction to it.
