What is the speed of the car hint for small values of x the

A highway patrolman sends a 28.250 GHz radar beam toward a speeding car. The reflected wave is lower in frequency by 2.97 kHz. What is the speed of the car? [Hint: For small values of x, the following approximation may be used: (1+x)2≈1+2x. ]

The only equation on my equation sheet for our exam is f=f^1(1+-U/C) .I am not sure how to apply this information. If you manipulate the equation can you explain how/why? Thanks! ( I tried 31.54 m/s but that was incorrect.)
