What is the social support network for families

Problem:

Social determinants of health refer to the conditions in which people are born, grow, live, work, and include factors such as income, education, employment, housing, and social support networks (Marmot, 2005). Three social determinants of health are relevant to addressing childhood obesity: socioeconomic status, physical environment, and social support networks (Guedes et al., 2011).

Two questions can be asked regarding socioeconomic status: "What is the average household income in this community, and what percentage of families live below the poverty line?" and "Are there any services available that provide healthy food options or opportunities for physical activity?" These questions help identify economic barriers that may prevent families from accessing healthy foods or participating in physical activity programs. By understanding this determinant, interventions can be developed to address these barriers and provide access to healthy lifestyle choices (Powell et al., 2012).

Physical environment is another social determinant related to child obesity. Two questions should be asked: "Are there safe spaces for children to play in the community?" and "What is the accessibility of healthy food options in the community, such as grocery stores and farmers' markets?" These questions help identify lack of safe spaces for physical activity or limited access to healthy food options. By examining this determinant, interventions can be developed to promote safe physical activity and healthy eating (Guedes et al., 2011).

Questions to ask about social support networks are: "What is the social support network for families with young children in the community, such as community centers or parent-teacher associations?" and "Are there any community programs available that promote healthy lifestyle choices and support for young children?" They help identify social factors such as lack of social support for healthy lifestyle choices or limited access to community programs and services. By understanding this determinant, interventions can be developed that promote healthy lifestyle choices and support for families with young children (Harley & Eskenazi, 1989).

Response Postings:

A professional response is very similar; however, you are responding to some professional statement and view of a subject.  It is usually briefer,  plus citations and references. You also do response postings with evidence. Sometimes you need to add to the knowledge outlined, or refute it; argue it, with new material.  Do not simply write something like "Hey Ann Marie, that was a great posting and I agree with your views. You said it all really well." This example tells us absolutely nothing about any analysis or critical thinking on the part of the responder.
