What is the significance of Pharyngeal gill slit?
Lateral opening in the wall of the pharynx which allows water to enter into the mouth and exit through the pharynx. This is one of the ancestral characteristics of phylum Chordata. It allowed water to be removed from ingested food before it was passed back into digestive system.
