What is the minimum process flow time

Assignment Task: Each year Intel's A&T (Assembly and Test) plant in Ho Chi Minh City produces 36,000,000 integrated circuits (IC's). IC's are chips mounted on boards that can then be included in devices. Assembling an IC requires four steps to be performed sequentially at four separate stations.

1. Align Chip and Tape (ACT)

2. Inner Lead Bonding (ILB)

3. Outer Lead Bonding (OLB)

4. Test/Burn-In (TBI)

Each IC is produced individually. The time at Step 1- ACT is 20 seconds. Each subsequent step takes 25% longer than the step before.

a. If there is one resource at each step, which step is the bottleneck? (1, 2, 3, or 4)

b. What is the minimum process flow time in seconds? Use two decimal places for your calculations.

c. How many ACT machines are required at Step 1-ACT to produce two IC's per second? Please make sure your answer is an integer.

d. How many TBI machines are required at Step 4-TBI to produce two IC's per second? Please make sure your answer is an integer.
