I wrote an SAT workbook that contains a vocabulary matching section. When writing it I used several dictionaries, including one online. I did not use all the definitions verbatim, but several were exactly what I wanted to put down so I may have used 80-90% of the verbage. Some definitions are common knowledge to me, even though the dictionary says pretty much the same thing I would have. Do I need to pay them to use their words or get their permission?
What is the law concerning the use of dictionary definitions?
