What is the impact now to karens career

Problem

Salsa Flower Inc. Inc. was an employer participating in Lonsdale College's work fair. Karen was graduating in the spring with a degree in finance and had met with Ally, the HR manager, at the fair. Karen gave her resume to Ally and was glad to receive a call from her a few weeks later requesting that she attend for an interview for an accounting position.

Because Karen had been terminated from her last summer job for very poor performance, she had "added" a couple of part-time jobs to her resume. She had asked her good friends Martin and Bill to act as the work references for those fictitious jobs. In fact, Karen and her friends prepared a script of what to say about Karen's experiences in those jobs.

Ally, the HR Manager was very busy preparing the HR Strategy plan and so had scheduled until noon for the interviews for the 8 applicants. She got in early at 9.30 am for the first interview - which happened to be Karen. Ally asked about Karen's college experience, she heard that Karen had won the College's Bronze Medal for Academic Excellence in Math courses and that she was going to be valedictorian of the graduating class. Ally was very impressed and said that she had also been valedictorian and it was one of her most cherished memories. Ally quickly told her the main responsibilities of the job, showed Karen out, and then called in the next candidate for their interview. She had no time to waste.

Ally hired Karen after calling Karen's work references and hearing so many good things about her work experiences.

Karen was excited to start her position. Karen showed up early to the required orientation session and learned all about the company Code of Conduct and signed her payroll and tax forms.

Karen was shown to her desk after a lunch with her manager and told to start her work as an Accounting Executive. Based upon what she remembered of the job duties Ally had explained to her in her interview, she proceeded to review and then complete the paperwork in the files. Karen thought that she was doing well, until 6 months later at her first review with her manager, she was told that she was at the bottom rating, and to not expect any merit increase. She was lucky to have her job.
