Threats to the health of populations exist everywhere. Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and diabetes are examples related to the behaviors of individuals. Swine flu caused by the H1N1 virus can spread through interaction with people.

Respiratory health issues are impacted by the environments individuals live in. Pandemics, natural disasters, cardiovascular disease, and many other significant health issues are evident everywhere. Public health issues that impact individuals, communities, resources, and economics are now receiving the attention of global leaders.

This week, you will examine the common challenges faced by public health professionals from America to Zimbabwe and everywhere in between.

As you begin to explore strategies for addressing these significant health threats, perhaps the popular Disney song lyric, "It's a small world after all," will come to mind.
