The hnction ofthe  citric acid cycle can be discussed as  follows. The  intermediates of citric acid cycle are used as  precursors in the biosynthesis of many compounds of two carbon acetvl residues which are derived from carbohvdrates. faMr  acid and amino  acids. Further,  the TCA cycle generates  ATP by oxidative  phospho&lation when electrons generated  in the cycle are transferred  to the electron transport chain.
