What is the conversation you are joining what is the issue

Essay Question:

Does everyone in our country have an opportunity to receive an equal college education? Consider the advantages that might come from social class, nationality, ethnic and racial identity, gender, sexuality, or able-bodied status.

Write an essay in which you tell us your position.

Support your position using TWO essays from Chapter Three in Identity, in addition to the Jonathan Kozol essay that is available as a PDF under Unit Two.

Do not use any other outside sources unless you discuss it with me. Build an argument about what American education accomplishes in relation to these differences - and perhaps, what you think it should accomplish. Be sure to use and analyze specific examples from the texts and, if you want, your own experiences. Include a Works Cited at the end.

Some things to keep in mind:

i. What is the conversation you are joining? What is the issue being debated/discussed? What are the different sides a person might take in this debate?

2. What is your thesis (i.e. what is your argument)?

3. Do you remind your audience what your thesis is in the body of your essay? Do you provide examples, quotes and reasons to support your thesis?

4. Why is this topic important? Do you state this somewhere in your paper? If not, where can you add this information?
