What is the constitution of the cartilaginous matrix?
The cartilaginous matrix is made of collagen fibers, mostly collagen type II, and of proteoglycans, proteins associated to glycosaminoglycans, chiefly hyaluronic acid. The proteoglycans provide the typical rigidity of the cartilages.
