Conflict is central to a story. You can't have a story without it. Conflict refers to the clashing of opposing forces. The main character is involved in the conflict and he or she could be battling: another human, society, nature, God.
The Crisis refers to the meeting of opposing forces in conflict. This is when the conflict is at its most intense. The crisis can occur before or at same time as climax.
