Assignment Task:
Kurt is from a country that has experienced violence and warring factions. He has recently arrived in Australia and been assessed by the local council. He is to receive home help twice a week. Kurt has schizophrenia which can result in aggressive behaviour due to confusion. Vince, a support worker, arrives at Kurt's home at the pre-arranged time. After initial introductions, they begin to discuss the care plan and how they will work together. Kurt says he wants to change his support from showering and house cleaning, to being taken on errands and to the local pub. Vince explains that this is not possible and any changes to his care need to be made by the supervisor. Vince explains the role of home and community care and confirms that all people need to have input into their support. However, the things that Kurt is requesting are not available as part of home and community care support. Kurt immediately becomes verbally aggressive and physically threatening.
