What is the average amount of receivables

Problem

I. Parramore Corp has $12 million of sales, $3 million of inventories, $3.25 million of receivables, and $1.25 million of payables. Its cost of goods sold is 75% of sales, and it finances working capital with bank loans at an 8% rate. What is Parramore's cash conversion cycle (CCC)? If Parramore could lower its inventories and receivables by 10% each and increase its payables by 10%, all without affecting sales or cost of goods sold, what would be the new CCC, how much cash would be freed up, and how would that affect pretax profits?

II. McEwan Industries sells on terms of 3/10, net 30. Total sales for the year are $1,921,000; 40% of the customers pay on the 10th day and take discounts, while the other 60% pay, on average, 70 days after their purchases.

i. What is the days sales outstanding?

ii. What is the average amount of receivables?

iii. What is the percentage cost of trade credit to customers who take the discount?

iv. What is the percentage cost of trade credit to customers who do not take the discount and pay in 70 days?

v. What would happen to McEwan's accounts receivable if it toughened up on its collection policy with the result that all non-discount customers paid on the 30th day?

III. Carlsbad Corporation's sales are expected to increase from $5 million in 2019 to $6 million in 2020, or by 20%. Its assets totaled $3 million at the end of 2019. Carlsbad is at full capacity, so its assets must grow in proportion to projected sales. At the end of 2019, current liabilities are $1 million, consisting of $250,000 of accounts payable, $500,000 of notes payable, and $250,000 of accrued liabilities. Its profit margin is forecasted to be 3%, and the forecasted retention ratio is 30%. Use the AFN equation to forecast the additional funds Carlsbad will need for the coming year.

IV. Williamson Industries has $7 billion in sales and $1.944 billion in fixed assets. Currently, the company's fixed assets are operating at 90% of capacity. a. What level of sales could Williamson Industries have obtained if it had been operating at full capacity? b. What is Williamson's target fixed assets/sales ratio? c. If Williamson's sales increase 15%, how large of an increase in fixed assets will the company need to meet its target fixed assets/sales ratio?
