What is operational definition for dependent variable

Assignment Problem:

The researcher is interested in examining how social media use can influence the growth of a child in South America. She picks a sample of children in different parts of South America who have access to social media and have them use it for a period of six months. She then compares changes in their growth to that of children who do not have access to social media.

The independent variable is social media use.  The dependent variable is the child's growth. There are two levels for the independent variable: with social media access and without social media access.

1. What type of independent variable is this?  Explain why your independent variable falls into that category.

2. What is the operational definition for this Dependent Variable (this doesn't have to be perfect)?

3. What is your hypothesis for your study (this can be an educated guess! It doesn't have to be correct!)? Be sure to state your hypothesis using the synthetic form.

4. Name and define one technique/strategy that you would use to control extraneous variables in your study. Be sure to explain what type of strategy you would use, and how you would apply it in this specific example
