What is it thinking throughout the story

Problem

English: The Black Cat

Directions:

"The Black Cat," like so many of Poe's stories is written from a first person point of view. The main character narrates the story for us. This provides us with a clear idea of why he acts as he does, but it does little to help us understand the thinking or feelings of the other characters. For this Assignment, you are going to take the point of view of the black cat. Retell the story from its point of view. Consider the following:

1. What is going through its head?
2. What is it thinking throughout the story?
3. How does it feel toward the narrator?
4. What does it wonder about?
5. How does it feel at the end of the story?

In order to do this, you will be using personification (giving human like characteristics to non-human beings).

Get creative. Let your reader know clearly how you as the cat feel about the events in the story. Be sure to tell us what has happened throughout. Look carefully at Poe's writing style, and try to make your story match the style of his as much as possible. You do not have to use the uncommon and archaic language, but you should use literary elements and figurative language to create good visual images for your reader.

Guidelines:

Your should:

1. Be a two to three page story
2. Attempt to use the same style, literary elements and figurative language that Poe uses
3. Follow the conventions of correct grammar, spelling and punctuation
