What is each writer saying about design

Assignment task: Identify author, title, and date (as close as possible) of the original texts of the following passages. Explain exactly what is each writer saying about design (bottom line).  Compare with one of the author's actual work/s? (Author's item/s studied in this course, CITE IT/THEM-ID works.) Do for both. THEN, compare/contrast the design ideologies and the works of the two designers. Consider their period context/s.

Text 1: "Architecture joins together, binds.  Painting loosens, unbinds. The very fact that they have to fulfill essentially different functions makes possible a harmonious combination.  The latter arises not from similar characteristics, but precisely from opposite characteristics.  In this opposition, in this complementary relationship of architecture and painting, of plastic form and flat color, pure monumental art finds its basis."

Text 2: "Let us therefore create a new guild of craftsmen without the class-distinctions that raise an arrogant barrier between craftsmen and artists! Together, let us desire, conceive, and create the new building of the future, which will combine architecture, sculpture, and painting in one unity, and will one day rise towards the heavens from the hands of a million workers as the crystalline symbol of a new faith."
