Assignment: COMMIT A DEVIANT ACT
Remember ... Sociology is not just something we "study" but it is also something we "do". As part of our study on Deviance, you are being asked to break an informal social norm.
Prepare a 3-4 page summary of your deviant activity; typed, double-spaced, in APA conformance. In a integrated and organized essay/report please address/answer the following:
• What is Deviance? Provide sociological insight and articulate a thesis statement (i.e. your perspective or position) on the subject of deviance.
• What social norm did you break? Explain what you did.
• How did people react to your actions? Did they sanction you? If so, how?
• How did you feel while being deviant?
• Would you commit the act again? Would you feel better doing this activity in a group? Why or why not?
• Why would our society label the act you committed as deviant? Are there larger social benefits to the "deviant" label? Address pros and cons of deviance.
• Summary and reflection.
