What is Debate
Debate took place in the 1980s and first half of the 1990s. It was resolved as RISC the winner since it allows more efficient pipelining, results in simpler hardware and easier increase of clock frequency. Intel and Motorola machine language sets are CISC. Sun is RISC. Why and how the Intel CISC architecture has kept its domi-nance would be clear later in semester. But, simply, this has been possible by designing an Intel CPU which converts each Intel CISC instruction to up to three RISC instructions on the fly.
