The following four slides contain advertisements that appliance companies used to popularize the "American Dream" after the Second World War. As you look them over, think about the racial and class norms these images communicate to the suburban homebuyer.
After looking at these images, write a 1-2 page response that addresses the following themes.
In Part #1: DESCRIBE who or what is being depicted and how each image conveys a story about the potential lifestyle of the future Levittowner.
In Part #2: ANALYZE the racial politics of each image. Who is the likely audience or consumer of the image you selected? What racial background did they likely have and what social class or cultural values did they aspire toward? In addition to your visual readings, cite at least two passages from either David Kushner or Jeff Wiltse's readings in order to support your claims.
