Read the excerpts from Marx and Fromm on alienation. Marx is writing into the 19th century situation and Fromm is referring to the late 20th century situation. Compare the two selections and say how they are alike and how they are different. What is alienation and how does it affect people? How much of a problem do you think alienation is in our society?
