Reflect: The processes used to make laws, govern society, and maintain democracy are complex and multi-faceted. The processes also involve many different political issues and actors to include interest groups and political parties. Examining the politics surrounding a recall election will give great insights into how one particular democratic process, recall election, work and enable critical analysis of the various political actors involved in the process, their behavior, and their power/authority relationships.
Write: In your initial post of at least 200 words, research a recall election. Use this website from the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL), as your starting point for your research: Recall of State Officials. Choose ONE of the three following gubernatorial recall elections in U.S. history to research. "In 2012, Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker survived a recall attempt. In 2003, California voters successfully recalled Governor Gray Davis, and in North Dakota in 1921, voters removed from office not only Governor Lynn J. Frazier," (NCSL, 2013, Para. 8). You will be assigned to research a specific country based on the first letter of your last name.
• If your last name begins with A-H, you must research Governor Scott Walker, Wisconsin (2012).
Answer the following questions:
• What interests groups, to include political parties, were involved in the success or failure of this recall election and why? What was the result of the recall election?
• Were there any unintended consequences of this recall election?
• Do you believe recall elections are good or bad for democracies and why?
