Assignment task: This assignment you will find a unique feed for fish or shellfish and will present a short slide presentation on each feed selected with characterizations of the feed label and introducing other ingredients.

- Present one research case study with either the feed presented or a main component ingredient of that feed.
This relates to the course project in that you will need to describe all of the husbandry needs for the aquatic animal you are recommending. Part of that process is sourcing the food necessary to feed your livestock.
For example: You might decide to select a feed where soy is the prime ingredient. Show the feed label on the slide (most of this information can be gleaned from feed manufacturers websites). Interpret the primary ingredients on the feed label, what are the first, second, third ingredients from the proximate analysis. Then examine either white paper on the feed or explore the main feed ingredient by selecting a case study or research study. This generally includes the why of the study (problem to address), the how (methods), and the what happened (results).
Tips: There are several major feed companies in the U.S. like Cargill, Zeigler, Skretting and internationally there is Cermaq, ADDCON, Alltech, BioMar. Additionally, there is a variety of companies specializing in food for ornamental fish and corals and start ups specializing in insect proteins. Many of the feed companies including the feeds you buy are required by law to include a feed label. You can start by selecting the feed company, exploring their products or you can select a feed you want to explore first.
