Problem: Arms are trafficked to the south and if RFID tagging is used in almost everything today. If you could insert an RFID tag into the stock of an AK-47 type rifle, then you could use electronic detection equipment to follow that tag where it went- thereby allowing you to track the rifle. Fast and the Furious was a major mistake by ATF primarily because they didn't use technology, instead they depended on tracking humans who were the straw buyers of the guns. If the ATF had used RIFD technology would this program been more effective and might this be implemented today?
