What if anything is being done to control it now

Topic: Exotic versus Invasive Species

Sometimes humans intentionally or unintentionally cause major changes to ecosystems by introducing new and/or exotic species (Weeds Gone Wild, n.d.). One classic example of an alien invasion is the introduction of the gypsy moth (Lymantria dispar) to the United States. Read the following information provided by the U.S. Forest Service on the gypsy moth:

U.S. Forest Service. (n.d.). Gypsy moth in North America.

Watch the video from CBS news to learn about this crisis.

CBS. (2007, June 13). Gypsy moths decimate forests (CBS News) [YouTube Video file].

Now, visit the following websites and research an invasive species currently found in your local area or in a place that you have visited in the recent past.

i. USDA National Agricultural Library.
ii. Least Wanted: Alien Plant Invaders of Natural Areas: PCA.
iii. National Invasive Species Information Center (NISIC). U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Compare one invasive species you found in your research to the classic example of the gypsy moth and/or to cases found by your classmates by considering the following:

i. What is the invasive species you chose and where is it currently having an impact?
ii. Where did your invasive species originate from?
iii. How did it reach its new home?
iv. What conditions have allowed this species to become invasive (e.g., missing predator, etc.)?
v. What effects is it having on its new ecosystem (include both positive and/or negative impacts)?
vi. What, if anything, is being done to control it now?
vii. In the gypsy moth example, what could have been done to prevent this invasion?

Format your homework according to the following formatting requirements:

i) The answer should be typed, using Times New Roman font (size 12), double spaced, with one-inch margins on all sides.

ii) The response also includes a cover page containing the title of the homework, the student's name, the course title, and the date. The cover page is not included in the required page length.

iii) Also include a reference page. The Citations and references must follow APA format. The reference page is not included in the required page length.
