I once read one of the bestselling novels of all time titled, To Kill A Mockingbird, written by Harper lee in the early 1960's. This book is still an all time favorite because it was written about the racial and stereotypical behaviors in the south. Although, it had parts in it that portrayed the a child who was innocent about everything. She did not understand why racism occurred at all, the little girl named, Scout, did not recognize color as everyone else did. Her father, Atticus Finch, was a lawyer who wanted to help anyone regardless of their color. Ms. Harper received a Pulitzer Prize for writing this masterpiece of written work.

What I get from this novel is the behavior of people of different cultures and subgroups that still exist today. It may not be as prevalent as it was back then, but racism and stereotyping is still a problem especially in the south. The novel expresses the different emotions that filled the pages and it was a mixture of innocence to cruelty. Many children from grade school, high school, and college students have read this novel as part of their academic learning. To show how people thought about others not of their kind and how we can work on improving in our culture today.
