As we consider our experience with healthcare information systems and technology, consider also the safety factors introduced by the use of healthcare information systems. The introduction and utilization of information systems and technology in our healthcare systems in recent years have saved countless lives and saved patients' from serious injury, as well. However, on the rare occasions, when the use of information systems and technology was in question, it was often due to the misuse or mis-operation of the equipment, such as shutting off alarms systems, ignoring warning lights, as well as sharing Logon-ID and passwords. Consider your work environment. What has been your experience with regard to the use or misuse of information systems and/or technology at your healthcare facility or your work-environment?
