Team Project Guidelines
For team assignment, you will form (or be assigned to) teams of four or five members. Each team will perform a thorough strategic audit on a chosen (or assigned) company. The objective of this exercise is to give you scope to apply relevant concepts, strategic analysis tools and techniques learned in class. Your strategic audit should address the following questions to the extent possible:
1. What, very briefly, is the company's background and history?
2. What has the company's strategy been over the years?
3. What is the external context of the company? For instance, what aspects of the environment influence industry structure and performance? What are the paramount institutional constraints and how do they affect strategic choices within the industry? What drives competition within the industry? What are the most relevant measures of performance in the industry? What must a company be best at (i.e., key industry success factors) to do well in this industry?
4. Describe the internal context of the company. For instance, what are the company's valuable resources and capabilities? What are the company's core competences? Is its internal organization, operations, systems and processes consistent with its environment and strategy? How has it been performing and how do you assess its future financial/strategic health?
5. How does the company compare with its key competitors?
6. What advantage does the company possess? How sustainable is this advantage and resultant performance?
7. Currently, how global is the company in terms of its products/services and operations? Justify the need for the company to expand overseas and assess the benefits due to such expansion. Analyze the challenges that the company is likely to face in moving into different international markets. Describe the core competencies/advantages of the company and its ability to transfer them to different international locations.
8. What are the key strategic challenges/issues faced by the company? What are your strategic recommendations (just three or four), given your answers to all the above questions? What are the time - frames for these recommendations? What are the long-term competitive and performance implications of your recommendations?
9. What implementation challenges do you anticipate? How would you ensure successful results?
10. If you could implement only one of your recommendations, which would be it and why?
You CANNOT perform a strategic audit on any company featured in cases that we will discuss during the term.
Unlike for the written case analysis assignments, you may need to perform research on the company to address these questions. The FIU Libraries list a number of relevant resources for such research.
Your grade will reflect your ability to apply various theoretical frameworks and tools in performing the analysis and the thoroughness with which you perform the analysis.
• Your report should not exceed 20 letter-sized pages (12-point font, double-spaced) not including the cover page and appendices, include an executive summary (200 words maximum), and cite all sources clearly. Please copy edit thoroughly before submission.
Team Member (Peer) Evaluation - Individual
At the end of the course, each team member will hand in a confidential peer evaluation of the respective contributions and the value added by other members. I will use these peer evaluations to adjust (up or down) an individual member's grade on team assignments. This peer review may consider criteria such as attendance at any meetings, adherence to team deadlines, individual initiative and creative input, contributions to data collection/analysis/recommendations, communication/sharing with other members, contribution to the team presentation, contribution to the written report, and overall contribution. Please write down specific examples of good behaviors/contributions (or lack thereof).

1. The answer should be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides.
2. The response also includes a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student's name, the course title, and the date. The cover page is not included in the required page length.
3. Also include a reference page. The Citations and references should follow APA format. The reference page is not included in the required page length.
