Discussion Post: Epidemiology and Evidence-Based Clinical Practice Guidelines

Topic: Epidemiology and Evidence-Based Clinical Practice Guidelines

Research demographic and epidemiology data in your county or state (health data profile through department of health). Identify a disease that has a high prevalence or incidence rate among a particular ethnic/age group. Conduct a literature search of online databases that are useful for finding evidence-based practice guidelines for the identified disease. A list of databases is located in the Overview and Web field trip areas of this unit. Review recommended health promotion, preventive health, and health maintenance guidelines for the selected disease (consider age group) and answer the following questions:

• What is the name of the disease, incident rate, and what age and/or ethnic group is most affected?

• What has been identified as risk factors to this disease?

• List evidence-based practice guidelines for treatment of this disease

• List preventive health measures, health promotion, and maintenance strategies for the disease

• Discuss NP role in managing this illness.

The response must include a reference list. Using Times New Roman 12 pnt font, double-space, one-inch margins, and APA style of writing and citations.
