What happened when the person dropped it themselves

Problem

A good way to understand this concept of reaction times is to do the dollar bill trick. You will need a friend to help. Take a dollar bill and hold it in your dominant hand by your thumb and forefinger along the top of the bill. With your other hand, hold your thumb and forefinger on each side of the bill as if to pinch it right in the middle of George Washington's head. Don't let your fingers actually touch the bill. Now, drop the bill with the dominant hand and try to catch it with your other hand. This is not hard and you were probably successful. Switch hands and try it again. You were probably also able to catch the bill.

Now ask your friend to hold the bill and you put your hand around it to try to catch it. Tell a friend to drop the bill and you will catch it. Probably you were unable to do so. Try it with the other hand. How was this different? Why? Tell about the experience. Include who you did this with, what happened when the person dropped it themselves and what happened when the other person dropped it. Then discuss the reason it was different to hold the bill yourself or have someone else hold it. Submit a write-up here.
