Two steel compression coil springs are to be nested. The outer spring as an inside diameter of 1.5 in, a wire diameter of .120 in and 10 active coils. The inner spring has an outside diameter of 1.25 in, a wire diameter of .091 in and 13 active coils.

b. What force is required to compress the nested assembly a distance of 1 inch? (Both have the same free length)

c. Which spring will be most highly stressed? Calculate this stress using force from (b).
