Assignment Part 1:
Problem 1: Analyse Mr Hasan's history. What factors increase his risk of experiencing vascular disorders? Explain the relationship between each cardiovascular risk factor and the development of aortic aneurysms.
Problem 2: Most AAAs are infrarenal. What other signs or symptoms may Mr Hasan present with if his AAA was suprarenal? Explain your answer.
Problem 3: If Mr Hasan's AAA were to rupture, what signs would be observed or symptoms reported? How would this situation be managed?
Problem 4: As Mr Hasan has an AAA, what can you infer about the health of the rest of his vascular system? Before the AAA is corrected, what other investigations should take place? Why?
Problem 5: Mr Hasan's father and brother have died of cardiovascular issues. What is the significance of this information? What implications does this information have on the rest of the family?
Assignment Part 2:
A short essay on a new treatment/therapeutic for AAA. The essay should describe 2 things:
- The origin of the treatment/therapeutic (how was it developed or discovered).
- The mechanism by which the treatment/therapeutic is proposed to affect the disease.
How does this treatment/therapeutic differ from or improve upon previous treatments or therapeutics?
The treatment/therapeutic that you choose cannot be widely used or applied to this disease. It should be in the pre-clinical (animal model trials) or clinical research phase (Phase 1, 2 or 3 trials) of development.
Referencing is important. At least 3 references are required. All references are to be published from 2018-2022. Referencing style is not important, as long as all references comply to a single referencing style. Make sure to include your reference list at the end.
