What events preceded the experience

Problem

I. As with any counselling issue, IPV can be a stressful area in which to work as a crisis counsellor. Some dynamics of violence, such as life-and-death situations or innocent individuals being hurt, can be especially difficult for some of us to work with in a crisis counselling context. Write out a holistic self-care plan (physical, cognitive, emotional, and spiritual) that addresses specific actions you will take in order to care for yourself when the crisis counselling you do in your current or anticipated work setting involves an IPV component.

II. Reflect on your life experience that involved significant sadness, conflict, anger, or any forms of crisis. Situate the experience historically, personally and socially by asking yourself: What were the circumstances? What events preceded the experience? After identifying your personal crisis, choose the most appropriate crisis theory and possible interventions to be used. Include the setting and coping strategies you will apply to address the crisis.
