Here is what I have so far on my dissertation topic, which will focus on a qualitative case Study approach to Transformational Leadership in Higher Education. Transformational leadership has been widely recognized as a critical factor in promoting knowledge sharing and innovation within higher education institutions. This study seeks to explore how transformational leadership influences these processes within complex academic environments. A qualitative case study design is proposed to examine leadership practices within bounded institutional contexts, allowing for an in-depth understanding of organizational dynamics. Prior research shows that transformational leadership significantly enhances knowledge sharing behaviors and innovation outcomes in organizational settings (Bou et al., 2024; Zhang et al., 2025). By focusing on real-world settings and participant perspectives, this design enables a holistic exploration of leadership influence. Therefore, a qualitative case study design is the most appropriate approach because it provides a comprehensive, context-rich understanding of how transformational leadership shapes knowledge sharing and innovation within higher education institutions.

The proposed research problem is viable due to the accessibility of higher education institutions as research sites, where leadership, knowledge sharing, and innovation are integral to organizational success. The target population includes faculty members, academic leaders, and administrative staff who actively participate in knowledge exchange and innovation processes. Access to these participants can be facilitated through institutional collaborations, professional networks, and academic partnerships. It will be necessary to complete qualitative interviews to capture participants' experiences and perspectives in depth. The availability of validated measurement instruments and organizational access supports the feasibility and practical implementation of this study.

In essence, the qualitative case study design is the most appropriate approach for examining how transformational leadership influences knowledge sharing and innovation within higher education institutions. This design allows for an in-depth exploration of leadership practices within real-world contexts, capturing the complexity of organizational dynamics. Ultimately, the case study design aligns closely with the research purpose and questions, while alternative designs lack the necessary contextual depth. Research evidence supports the role of transformational leadership in fostering knowledge sharing and innovation, reinforcing the importance of studying these dynamics in context (Bou et al., 2024; Zhang et al., 2025). By focusing on bounded systems and multiple data sources, the study can provide meaningful insights into leadership and organizational behavior. These findings may contribute to improved leadership practices and foster more collaborative and innovative academic environments.
