Question: Develop your own idea for a production of 1 of the play's
Tartuffe or Medea. Remember this is an essay, so be sure to connect the sections clearly. The essay should address the following (in any order):
1. What draws you to this play and why would you like to produce it today, for which audience(s)? What is the major theme/ character/ plot element that is central to your production? How are you going to draw the focus of this out? What is the intended affect on your audience? (i.e. When they go home and talk about it to their friends, how will they describe it? How did it make them feel/ what did it make them think about?) (1.5 p.)
2. How will the design elements support your ideas of the meaning of the play? (1 page)
3. Choose one moment/scene in the play to discuss in detail. This should be a pivotal moment for the plot/characters/ theme in your production. Feel free to include an adaptation of the dialogue (this does NOT count towards the page requirement). (1 page)
4. You might also address: casting choices; adaptations to the play in terms of language or more loosely (i.e. cutting a scene; changing the plot, etc.)
