Questions:
1. What does the law state about voter ID requirements? What was the purpose of extablishing such laws?
2. Explain the basis for the lawsuit, Texas NAACP v. Steen. What was the outcome?
3. Explain the court ruling from 2018, which effecitvely ended the voter ID legal debate in Texas? Do you agree with the outcome?
4. What is the most recent news related to voter ID laws? (Per the USA Today article from August 2019)
5. Overall, where do you fall on this topic? Do you agree that voter ID laws are necessary to prevent voter fraud, etc. OR are these laws unneccesarily discriminatory? Explain.

2. What was the original intent for redistricting the specified area in the first place?
3. Was the redrawn district representative of the original intent and what have the courts had to say about this issue?
4. As a citizen or resident of Texas, what do you think of the politicizing of districts in an effort to garner votes from specific types of people (race, ethnicity, gender, political party affiliation, etc)?
5. What are your over all thoughts and impressions about this issue? Should the politicians be taken completely out of the redistricting procedure, in an effort to maintain a bit more fairness or is the current system working? Why or why not?

Education in the United States is in a somewhat precarious situation as a result of low funding, low teacher pay, lack of resources, etc. Texas is not exempt from this. In fact, we have been struggling for years to find a way to fund schools in a fair manner, but make sure there are not huge disparities between school districts. We've tied "Robin Hood" and that was unfair. We've raised taxes on goods and properties. It has not solved the problem. The Texas Legislature just left session, passing new policies on education. For this discussion you are going to dive into the world of public education and lawmaking in Texas. Read the following articles and then answer the questions:
1.) Per the article on the newly released school scores, how are Texas schools doing with educating our youth? If you went to school here, look up your high school's rating. Do you agree or disagree based on your experiences?
2.) Texas has finally overhauled secondary education. Based on the articles above, what changes were proposed and what changes will be made as a result of the law passed in the 86th Legislative session? Do you see these as positive changes for our youth?
3.) How do we fund education currently? Will anything change with the new legislation?
4.) Based on the small sampling from UT, how are the elected officials doing with regards to public education? Was there any difference between the two political parties?
5.) Lastly, what are your overall thoughts regarding education policy in Texas?
