Essay Problem
During our first essay unit, we focused on George Romero's first two major zombie films. These films are generally considered to be the founding films in the modern zombie genre, but that genre has grown tremendously over the years. At this point, zombies are probably the most common kind of monster that we encounter in movies, on television and even in books--especially graphic novels or comics. So while Romero kind of kick-started this genre, it has very much taken on a life of its own over the years, reflecting changes in our social structure as well as in our attitudes about the world around us. So for this short problem, I'm asking you to simply reply to the following prompt: In comparison to Romero's zombie films, what does The Girl With all the Gifts do differently? There are probably a lot of differences worth noting, but your task here is to make an argument, or a claim, about a fundamental difference in perspective between Romero's films and The Girl With all the Gifts. Make a single claim that clarifies the main way that this film is different from Romero's. Then, write to support your claim, using specific references from the film.
