American culture promotes self-disclosure that exceeds that of any other culture. Yet, "TMI" (too much information) indicates inappropriate self-disclosure still happens. What may be appropriate for some may be inappropriate for others.
Find two instances of self-disclosure in the media (film, television, radio, magazines, newspapers, or the Internet).
1. Why do you think the particular instance of self-disclosure is appropriate or inappropriate.
2. Think of one instance where you experienced self-disclosure. Reflect on why you thought it was appropriate or inappropriate.
3. What does this experience reveal about a communication style?
4. How to regulate or would like to regulate self-disclosure in an intimate relationships (platonic or romantic)?
