Problem
Kathryn Miles is a journalist who lives in Maine and writes about issues and topics affecting her state. Although this piece is an article more than an essay, I want you to look at the ways she handles the topic because her specificity is applicable to all writing - she barely wastes a word and each clause gives the reader new information.
In your essay, you will use sources to back-up your statements, claims and ideas and have a Works Cited page, whereas a journalist should have links to original sources and credentials that help back up their reliability.
We're going to look at how the experts do it.
After you read the provided article, submit specific answers (refering to specific words or details where possible) to the following:

3. What does she use to show the problem or issue at hand?
4. What/who are her resources? Why does she provide links in the body of the article?
5. Who do you think is her audience?
6. What is the purpose of the piece?
7. Is an argument presented? If so, explain.
8. What else can you find out about the writer? Does she seem reputable?
