What does brooks-young say that we should teach students

Problem

Demonstrate an understanding of skills for interpreting, analyzing, evaluating, and producing visual images and messages in various media.

Read p. 275-311 in the textbook pages I have attached. This excerpt is from Literacy for Learning: A Handbook of Content-Area Strategies for Middle and High School Teachers by Gregory Berry, which is a book I highly recommend for your professional library.

Remember that Texas does not use the Common Core State Standards, so when this textbook discusses CCSS you can mentally substitute the TEKS.

Answer these questions/prompts in complete sentences:

A. On p. 276, the author provides this quote from Diamond Hicks (2011): The saturation of technology in students' lives has produced an entirely different type of student, shaping the way they think, learn, and experience the world around them. Do you agree with this statement? Why or why not?

B. In the last paragraph on p. 277 (continuing onto p. 278), the author says that technology should be used as a "strategy or vehicle to support good teaching". Summarize that paragraph

C. On p. 283-288 the author lists and discusses some useful online resources. Read through the list. Choose one of the resources that you think might be useful: name it, summarize what it is, and tell how you might use it in the classroom.

D. What does Brooks-Young (2010) say that we should teach students?

E. Pages 302-311 list 10 "other resources and strategies" teachers might use with their students. Choose the one you would be likely to use in your classroom. Write 2 or 3 sentences telling why you believe it would be a good fit for your future classroom and how you would use it.
