Good health is a fundamental prerequisite for people's ability to reach their full potential and to contribute to society's development. Human health is affected by economic, ecological and social factors and Goal 3 includes all dimensions and people of all ages.
In recent decades, great progress has been made to improve people's health globally, for example, child mortality has decreased by 50% since 1990. Investments in health through preventive measures and modern and effective care for all benefit the development of society at large and create the conditions for people's basic rights to well-being.
In Sweden, there is a state monopoly on the sale of alcohol in large quantities and there has also previously been a monopoly on the sale of tobacco. Healthcare was state-owned and pharmacies were also the state's responsibility. There was also a state monopoly on games and betting such as horse racing.
What do you think the motivation for these monopolies is and where? It is often about quite a lot of money, but perhaps even more about the health and well-being of the population. Think a little about the motivation behind letting the state take care of these various issues.
