Airport Management Operations: FOD
One of the most important items looked for during inspections of runways, taxiways, ramps, and other parts of the airside area is loose items (i.e., trash) that can be sucked into engines and cause damage. This category of material can cause "foreign object damage" to aircraft and is referred to as FOD. FOD objects can be the result of personnel discarding loose objects on the airfield, or they can fall off of aircraft in motion or on the ramp. What do you think is the best way to train airside employees to prevent damage to aircraft as a result of FOD?
