The United States is arguably the oldest continually operating democratic-republic in the world. Despite this, voter participation in the United States lags behind that of the nearly all developed nations...as well as many developing nations.

There have been many proposals for dealing with such low voter turnout: early voting, mail-in voting, online voting, and even mandatory voting to name a few.

Perhaps the most radical (not radical as in crazy, but radical as in ‘making a fundamental change to the nature' of elections) of ideas out there involves reforming the American electoral system from our current use of single-member district plurality voting (a.k.a. a first-pastthe-post system) to a proportional system.

What do you think? Is low voter turn-out even a problem? Should we reform the electoral system? What else do you think we should do to increase voter turnout?
