There is another race issue moving to the front of the media. Newt Gingrich has continued to use a term for Obama i.e. The Food Stamp President in his GOP debates. A year and a half ago - Eric Holder the US Atty General commented that Americans were cowards about facing the race question which I then sent to my students for discussion.
Last semester it was the Sen. Reid Brouhaha over his noting Obama was a light skinned black who didn't talk Negro speech. FoxNew's Sean Hannity pillaged Reid for that statement - noting that he and his conservative friends were beyond the "race thing".
MSNBC had a whole series on MLK Day noting how Obama's experience as President has been marked by what many people see as personal attacks which may indeed have a basis in an underlying racist element in the USA. The Gifford shooting and comments afterwards by various police etc... seemed to suggest Arizona was one of the most racist states in the USA and that the shooting was linked to an effort by rightwingers to scapegoat Latinos and their supporters.
Q: What do you think about Gingrich's statement about Obama being a Food Stamp President? How about Holder's, Reid's and Hannity's remarks? What do you think about charges that the USA harbors a multitude of closet racists?
