Question:

While sometimes employees believe that they must strike to achieve their goals, these strikes can have repercussions for people other than employers.

The Chicago public school system is the third largest school district in the U.S. Heading into 2013, the school system faced a $1 billion deficit. As the school year began in 2012, Chicago teachers were in a battle with the system over evaluations and it was unclear then, who would end victor in the times to come. These strikes removed teachers for over two weeks over questionable matters on job statuses and benefits. Over 26,000 teachers and school staff members demanded higher wages, better job security and changes to a new evaluation system. The proposed settlement included yearly wage increases and preference to those laid off in the city of Chicago for three years.
