Take a piece of prose writing that you feel has a poetic quality. It could be a novel you're reading, a short story, or even non-fiction.
Take a passage of one or two good-sized paragraphs, and try breaking them into lines - as if the passage were a free verse poem.
What do you notice about the poem you've created when you're done? Read both versions out loud.
